I think Ann Taylor might be getting
married, or at least attending a wedding, as there is a barrage of embroidered linen shift
dresses featured at Ann's. I felt they were a bit too wedding-worthy to include in the top
five, as I have no such engagements to attend, but if any of you do, check it out.
| I did, however, like this pale blue,
short linen skirt. It has black and white stripes running along the bottom and has
convenient pockets, $45.00. I
paired the skirt with this white linen top. It has a scalloped neckline and some eyelet
action going on at the top. It closes at the back with a line of buttons, $55.00. |

The next thing I spotted at Ann Taylor
comes from their shoe department. These leather slides are similar to the majority of
slides out there these days, except that its toe is narrower and less clunky. Also, it's
this great medium brown color that makes it look like wood, but its not. $88.00. |
Linen must be the season's fabric of choice, for the next pick makes it the third linen
item from Ann Taylor: a long, beige, linen skirt. It has two black stripes at the bottom
for contrast and costs $58.00. |

Lastly, we have these black
rayon/polyester pants. They feel rather breezy and seem like they would be comfy and cool
to wear in the summer, $88.00. |

Next stop, Banana Republic, where I
tried to keep away from their Helmut Lang "influenced" look, which I love and
hate to see overplayed.

Therefore, I bypassed all the stretch
chinos and sheer tanks and found this aqua-blue tank top on sale for $19.99. It's 100%
silk and has a v-neck and would be great for the sticky days that are to come. |
On the frillier side of BR is the sleeveless, cream button-down shirt. Also 100% silk,
it's got a pearly sheen that is slightly transparent, with delicate embroidery, $78.00.I coupled the top with an army green cotton skirt to neutralize the
frill factor. This one is strangely soft; it feels a bit like suede. It has a front zip
fly and a drawstring waistband, which strikes me as a little redundant, but it does the
job, I guess. It also has two pockets and will cost you $58.00. |

For summer nights, or even days, is
this pale blue, linen slip. It has scalloped v-neck, pleats at the bust, and adjustable
bra-straps for a better fit, $58.00. |
| Finally, for evenings out, BR has this
wonderful long, black silk dress, because silk and summer sound really nice together. It's
cut on the bias, making it flow over and hug the body quite nicely. It has lingerie
inspired stitching at the bust, giving it a more intimate feel than your average basic
black dress, $128. |

| The Gap |
At the Gap this time around, I found
the selection rather slim.
 |
However, I admit that they have tank
tops in a great array of colors, like this squared-neck tank in red, $14.50. It also comes
in lime, army green, pink, white, gray, yellow, and black. |
| Another tank top, a knitted, cotton
one, is a more intricate pick. It's ribbed, and has straps that continue under the arms.
It costs $22.50 and comes in aqua and pink. |

In trying to work the bohemian trend, the Gap carries this cute burlap bag. It has two
stripes, which also come in pink, and costs $22.00. |
Next is this white, cotton, short-sleeved, button-down shirt. It's cut a bit shorter,
stopping at the waist, and has three pleats running vertically down on both sides of the
buttons. An essential comfortable summer shirt, $34.00. |

Now for rainy summer days, there are these lightweight nylon windbreakers, which zip up
the front and have a bungee string waistband. They come in gray, beige, electric blue, and
red. One thing I can say about the Gap, is that they aren't afraid of colors. $34.00. |
