Look |
Bright, pretty and feminine. Immaculate,
spotlessly clean. Located on Madison Avenue in midtown under a golden sign.
This is Mary Quant's first store in the USA. There's a store in London, in Paris and
235 stores in Japan. The manager of the New York store emphasized to us that Mary
Quant, Japan, has owned the Mary Quant name for 20 years (for Baby Boomers, of course, the
Mary Quant name is synonymous with Swinging London in the Sixties). And the Quant
charming daisy logo is still in evidence. They plan on opening many stores in the
USA over the next few years. All the products are
well-displayed. The testers are clean, and out for you to experiment with.
This shop is called "America's Color Concept
Shop," and the emphasis is indeed on color. There is a wealth of shades.
There are also stations with good mirrors and light, where
you can work with a makeup artist, who will teach you, and encourage you to
experiment with colors you might not have otherwise considered. The manager told us
that even if you use a makeup artist, they will not hard sell you. Soft sell is
the key here. |
Vibe |
Peaceful, despite being right on hectic
Madison Avenue. The staff leaves you alone, but they are knowledgeable and friendly.
The staff is also very well made up and attractive. |
