Airyka concludes:

The men I approached of all ages were pleased to be noticed and obligingly stood to be recorded in photographic fashion history. Women, on the other hand, seemed a bit suspicious, but the gleam in my eye kept most of them from thinking I was absurd, and happily posed. Repeatedly, I found tourists from other countries most pleased to have their picture taken and very enthusiastic to talk about fashion in general as well as to take photos of me. To my dismay, older women were rarely willing to have their photo taken, though they were probably the most well dressed of all I encountered. The uniqueness of their style most likely has had time to gather itself over years of practice to end up well composed, elegant and classic. I wish I could present that in these photos, but these women were not comfortable with having their image recorded, which is perfectly fine, and more of a suggestion that one's style really emerges when other things, like confidence and sense of self are more important than others’ approval. I was mostly impressed by use of color, and a sense of fearlessness in young children who seemed to have no qualms about new and interesting hairstyles, and wearing head to toe pink.

Style in Seattle is less about supporting any particular industry, or a self-aware desire to firmly prove oneself individuality, than a means of being clothed, of comfort in ever-fluctuating weather, and of being oneself without loads of preconceived effort.

Fashion in Seattle seems, simply, to be about ease, function, and the occasional self-expressionist.

And in closing, with her own very pink fashion statement, is Airyka, a student at Sarah Lawrence College now spending her junior year abroad in India.
